H. Howe and Pearson Contend for Playoffs,
Gibson Wins (Yawn) Yet Again

After a quiet week where no UGT games occurred, a UGT Super Monday was meant to make a clean sweep of both Premier and Champions Leagues. The games took longer than expected, spilling over into Tuesday, leaving the only winner to be declared on Monday crossover champ Hunter Howe, who secured a victory in the week when some would argue he needed it most.

Hunter was able, after an initial loss to Champions League powerhouse John Berges, to battle back, defeating his closest competition in the Premier League - Brian Kaiser - and a sickly Gabe Rodriguez. He then went head-to-head against Berges again for the win with a bit of heisitation. "I feared going up against John Berges in the final match," Howe admitted. "I respect him deeply as a competitor." In the end, he was able to get the win, throwing him back in the mix for a wild-card spot. Howe is now 2 points back from Kaiser, who holds the tenuous second wild card slot, and is 2 points ahead of Ian Hetu and 5 points ahead of Aaron Houts. All hold one win and it would be foolish to count any of them out of the playoffs just yet.

Still, coming into the week with no wins, the victory was crucial for Howe, who described his last few weeks in UGT as a "pretty rough slump." He was pretty pumped after pulling down the win. "I really needed a win out there today."

As Tuesday rolled around, the Champions League brought another first-time winner: Lyndsay Pearson. Pearson has flirted with the win before, with second-place finishes in three previous weeks but her inconsistency has caused her to bounce around the middle of the Champions League. With the win and 10 points, Pearson managed this week to slip into the second wild-card slot with a gap of 4 points over Charles Gast.

Pearson was excited by her win, calling herself a "newcomer to this elite club." It's intimidating and daunting to get a first UGT win. Now that the pressure's off, Pearson feels that she's "finally somebody to actually pay attention to." One thing's for certain; Charles Gast will have Pearson in his sights in these last two weeks as he attempts to grab that second wild-card slot back.

While Pearson will have to keep up the fight to stay ahead of Gast in the wild-card race, Geoff Mitchell will need a win, a bit of luck, or two more strong weeks to get him into the playoffs. With Eric Holmberg-Weidler and Gabe Rodriguez switching places above and below him, Mitchell's staying just above that fourth-place line. The good news for him? He's only 4 points back from overall leader Isaac Epp. The bad news? He's only 3 points ahead of Rodriguez.

As the Premier League closed out the week, many were stunned. Dan Gibson winning yet again wasn't all that shocking. What was absolutely unbelievable to many competitors was the fact that Gibson had secured a win on the Wii, a machine that had been his undoing in the UGT season 2 playoffs. "Man," Hunter Howe said, "I can't believe he locked down anther win!"

After losing to Dave Miotke in round 1, many dismissed this as a week when someone other than Dan Gibson might get the win. Then, somehow, Gibson managed to win six straight times, grabbing his fourth win of the season and locking in his playoff spot. He's an astounding 15 points over Alex Hetu, his nearest competitor. As a comparison, 16 points is all that currently separates places 1 through 7 in the Champions League.

Unfortunately, our reporters had trouble tracking down Dan Gibson after the game had ended. After a bit of searching, we managed to find him in a pool of what appeared to be blood, muttering to himself. He was unresponsive to questioning, and would only keep saying, "Waggle. Waggle. I cleaned everything. The voices."
